Worthy of the Week: Disney Edition
- I am headed to Disney World with my family in October and I am so excited. I may be more excited than the kids. (Though I am disappointed that I can’t get reservations for nine at ‘Ohana to save my life.)
- Vintage Minnie Mouse for OPI.
- Vintage Mickey Mouse tee. I remember my mom wearing these in the 80s.
- Dole Whip. Even though this will be my 18th trip to Disney World, I just discovered Dole Whip a few years ago. It’s life changing.
- Disney Couture skull ring.
- The classic Timex Mickey Mouse watch.
- I kind of love this gold foil Mickey mouse bathing suit. It is a bathing suit, right? Or maybe just a bodysuit circa 1991?
Have you been to Disney World? What’s your favorite ride? Restaurant? I’m a bit of a closeted Disney fanatic, and totally feel the whole magical experience.

I’ve never been to Disney World, but growing up in Southern California meant that Disneyland was a staple of my childhood entertainment diet, back when tickets were cheap or free. I still have fond memories of It’s a Small World and Dumbo.

Is Disney Land smaller than Disney World? I’ve never been and would like to go.

I haven’t been since 1986. No lies. Wanted to go there for our honeymoon, but was out-voted. :-p
PS – I must have that swimsuit.

That’s where I had my honeymoon! Disney is phenomenal without kids. You can booze it up everywhere except the Magic Kingdom.

Disneyworld! When I heard you were going I started planning a fantasy honeymoon there (we really still have no idea where we’re going for the honeymoon).
My favorite restaurant is Beirgarten. Lots of meat, lots of beer and lots of good cheer. It sounds cheesy, but I think my favorite ride is It’s a Small World. I think it brought a tear to my eye the last time I rode it.
I’ve never had the Dole Whip! And I’ve also never been to the place where you can try the Coke varieties from around the world. I can’t wait to live vicariously through your trip!

Seriously consider Disney for your honeymoon! They upgraded us from a moderate hotel to the Yachet club to celebrate and we had the best time. Lots of great restaurants by big name chefs and the Magic Kingdom is the only place you can’t buy booze. Weeeee!

To answer your earlier question, yes, Disneyland is smaller than Disney World…all of Disneyland could fit inside of the Magic Kingdom.
We just got back from a week at Disney World. Don’t fret over not getting reservations at a restaurant on the property. We went at the busiest time of the year and got into a character dinner in the Magic Kingdom within 10 minutes. All you have to do is go up to the Reservations/Walk-Up Availability window & put your name down. You might have to wait a bit but you’ll get in. We ate at the Crystal Palace at the Magic Kingdom & got to meet Tigger, Pooh, Piglet & Eeyore. It was cool, expensive but cool.
My favorite ride was at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Expedition Everest. LOTS of fun. We got a Fastpass for it but my nephew stood in line before our FP & rode it twice before all of us got on. Part of the ride goes backwards. Another fun ride is the Aerosmith Rockin’ Rollercoaster at Hollywood Studios.
You’re going at a great time! July is DEFINITELY not a good time to go but I didn’t pick it. Have fun!!

Do you stay on property? If you do. you need to get the dining plus plan the next time you go! One snack, quick service, and a sit down meal all prepaid at a discount. Makes it so much easier and less stressful.
I’m a big chicken and won’t ride the rollercoasters. I like to go fast, but not high, so I stick to Big Thunder Mountain.
We used to go in May as kids, but for the past 10 years or so we always go in October. We walk on most of the rides and the water parks are empty. The last time we went, we were literally the only people in the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon. It was so cool.

Talk to me about the dole whip. Isn’t it just pineapple ice cream? Why the cult following?

Dole Whip kinda tastes like a pineapple Dreamsicle. But better. And with real pineapple topping if you want to get real crazy. Of course, it’s all that much better because you can only get it at Disney World.
