Target Swim 2016

This post is sponsored by Target. Thank you for supporting the sponsors that make Oh Hey possible.

Target LogoI was a bit of an early bloomer and remember feeling self-conscious shopping for a swimsuit as early as 4th grade. When other girls were getting their first itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny yellow polka dot bikinis, I was looking for a one-piece bathing suit that minimized my chest but didn’t look like something a grandma would wear.

Add the lack of availability of anything colorful and trendy in my size to my insecurity about my chest and I wasn’t having much fun in the sun. At high-school pool parties, you wouldn’t see me jumping off the diving board and I definitely wasn’t laying out in the quad with my college girlfriends on sunny days.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to regret letting my insecurities take over and sitting out as much as I did. I know now that I looked way better than I thought I did (Oh, hindsight) and that nobody else saw the flaws that I saw. Or thought I saw.

I know this story has been told a thousand times and that we’ve all worried about our body at some point, which is comforting in a way, but also makes me angry that we allow those worries to hold so much power. Is there something that’s been holding you back?

And while my itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny yellow polka dot bikini days may be over, I’m thankful that my body is healthy, that it does what I want it to do, and that I know how to dress it in a way that makes me feel confident. I know that I need a swimsuit with coverage and support to make me feel comfortable. I know that I won’t accept a swim skirt or neutral color just because that’s what “comes in my size.” I know that I’m not 18 years old, but I’m also not 60 years old, and there is a middle ground.

Target Flounce

I love the laser cut details and bright pink of the Ava & Viv flounce one piece.

Target’s swimsuit collection has options to make every shape and size feel confident and want to jump into any summer activity that comes along. With Target’s free shipping + free returns I was able to order as many swimsuits as I wanted to try on from the comfort of my own home without any worries.

Target Polka Dot

Target Swim Polka DotThe Ava & Viv twist front one piece in polka dot is a classic.

From geometric to animal print to classic polka dots, I was thrilled to see such a variety of plus-size swimsuit options at Target and didn’t have any trouble picking out half a dozen swimsuits that I’d feel amazing wearing. And that’s the key to picking out the perfect swimsuit – feeling amazing in it no matter your fears or insecurities.

If you’re looking for the perfect swimsuit, consider these four tips:

  1. Make a shopping day of it and bring a trusted friend for honest feedback.
  2. Try a new style or unexpected pattern. You never know what will make you feel great.
  3. Mix and match tops and bottoms to get the right fit and color/pattern combo.
  4. Don’t be so hard on yourself! If you feel good in a swimsuit, then you look good.

Target High Neck Swimsuit

Target Swimsuit DetailThe high neck halter design of this paisley Clean Water swimsuit is so supportive and a really pretty detail.

So are you ready to get summer started with a Target swimsuit that makes you feel great and take the #NOFOMO pledge? I can’t wait to tube down the Guadalupe River, jump into Barton Springs Pool, and enjoy the sandy beaches of Tulum this summer!

  1. I love this post! And oh man, hindsight. If I could just be as fat as I thought I was when I was 22 again! Haha! You are gorgeous and I love every look, but especially the polka dotted one!
