Slowly but surely, we’re finishing our bedroom set from IKEA.

Yesterday, we picked up the MALM 4-drawer chest and the MALM 6-drawer chest to match our MALM night stands. We also bought a FADO table lamp that our dog thinks is a ball and won’t quit barking at, curtains for the front bedroom window, and placemats to use as table toppers.

All we need now is the MALM bed frame and slats, but we’re either going to have to borrow a truck or pay for delivery to get those home.

After looking at all the furniture yesterday, I’m pining for the MALM dressing table, which has felt trays for jewelry, even though we have nowhere to put it. Maybe someone could buy it for me and save it until we have a house with plenty of room.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve turned into total IKEA junkies and are really happy with the quality of the pieces we’ve purchased.

If you’re wandering aimlessly around my website, lost without categories and tags, don’t fret.

With the help of Lisa, WordPress has been updated. I thought since I’ve been running 2.0 for the past two years, it was time for a change. Unfortunately, my tags and categories didn’t feel the same way.

If I can fix it, I will. If not, categories and tags will slowly return and older posts can have a party in their own category.

IMG 2025I had big dreams of bragging about my white chocolate ganache cupcakes, but alas, my ganache curdled and there will be no fluffy icing topped with white chocolate curls. If anyone knows the secret to ganache, please clue me in!

Cupcakes

  • 4 ounces cake flour
  • 4 ounces super fine sugar
  • 8 ounces unsalted butter
  • 8 ounces white chocolate
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Ganache

  • 3 ounces white chocolate
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Chocolate Curls

  • 3 ounces white chocolate

Preheat oven to 235 degrees and prepare 12 paper cupcake tins.

For cupcakes, butter and chocolate in double boiler and stir until melted. Set aside. Beat eggs and sugar until thick and well blended, then fold in flour and baking powder.

Bake for 20 to 22 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.

For ganache, place chocolate and half of the cream in a double boiler and stir until melted. Set aside and let cool completely.

Beat remaining cream until soft peaks form. Slowly add cooled chocolate cream mixture and beat until stiff peaks form.

Cover each cupcake with a layer of ganache and top with chocolate curls.

bears 001In most pictures of Mike, he smiles with his mouth closed and refrains from flashing us his pearly whites because he has issues with his teeth. It’s not that they aren’t fully functioning and gleaming white, it’s that they are crooked.

He’s visited a local dentist but his technology wasn’t as advanced as San Diego dentist Dr. David Landau and Dr. Tim Collins, who offer Invisalign braces that will fix his crooked teeth without drawing attention to them like conventional braces do.

Drs. Landau and Collins also perform Zoom whitening, which I would love to have done, and apply porcelain veneers as well as conventional crowns, fillings, and bonding. They treat dentistry like an art form, paying great attention to detail.

It has taken a lot of coaxing over the past few years to get him to show his teeth when he smiles, but we’re slowly getting there!

As much as I like to spend money, I do love to save money and learn about ways to multiply my savings. I’m slowly learning the ins and outs of finance and investing, and recently discovered MyWallSt.net, which is a great financial social networking site.

I know you’re thinking that finance and social networking don’t go together, but MyWallSt.net is really great. It’s not stuffy financial talk that most of us don’t understand like other websites and financial journals. It’s a chance for members to share ideas, information, and stock picks with other members on a level that’s easy to comprehend and put to use. It’s casual, yet competitive, with members taking their stock picks seriously.

Members can win money by taking the ‘Rookie Challenge”, upload pictures, videos, and stock picks, and create custom profile which enables them to write blog entries and comments.

The latest financial news and stock quotes are always at your fingertips on the front page of MyWallSt.net, along with the top ten Rookies and member stock ratings. It’s a great place to browse and learn from other people’s stick picks, blog entries, and percentages so that when I have money to invest, I’ll have the experience to invest it wisely.
