I suppose that is the kind of statement you’d expect to hear from someone who is celibate…

Before touching down for his first visit to Africa, Pope Benedict XVI took the opportunity to pontificate on the AIDS pandemic, saying that condoms are not the answer to the fight against AIDS.

I think we can all agree that condoms aren’t the solution to the AIDS pandemic, but they certainly are an effective preventative measure. Especially in a country with limited medical care and widespread occurrences of rape.

Pope Benedict--See No EvilWhile the Pope views condom distribution as giving those with AIDS the green-light to have sex, I believe the intention is to protect those that do not have the disease from contracting the disease. Will some view the condoms as the green-light? Absolutely. But why are we comprising the protection of many based on the rash actions of a few?

Several of the comments on the article are very well stated, especially those that expand on AIDS and STDs being a public health issue and not necessarily a moral one.

I miss PJP.

Mike and I watch Check Please, a PBS show hosted by sommelier Alpana Singh which lets ordinary people review Chicago restaurants, frequently and were excited when we heard of the “lost episode” from 2001 featuring Barack Obama.

Obama reviews Hyde Park haunt Dixie Kitchen and Bait Shop, which is surprisingly still open and with multiple locations. I bet they are going to love the burst of publicity!

Anyway, here it is. Enjoy and make your reservation quick!

I had enough paid time off to take 13 days off work this holiday season. Despite all the rest and relaxation, I’m already thinking about how I’m going to use next year’s vacation time. Planning is especially difficult because of my busy work schedule and my husband’s unpredictable work schedule.200x150

Vacations To Go has plenty of ideas for for last minute cruise vacations, all up to 75% off! That’s perfect for us, because even though we’re watching our budget, we still require vacations for our sanity!

Planning a cruise through Vacations To Go is a steal with these two little buttons:

90day smallGives a complete listing of cruises 90 days out or less. Most cruises set sail within a week and the deals go quick, so keep your eye on the ticker!

fab small

Lets you book your cruise further in advance, but gives you the same great opportunity to take advantage discounted rates though great early bird promotions and specials.

We’re a two vacations a year couple, and booking through Vacations To Go will let us take advantage of all of our vacation days and book two fantastic getaways that give us the most for our money. My vote is for the Greek Isles, while Mike wants to go to Alaska, but both are no problem when cruises are up to 75% off!

2I was out of the office for some work related meetings this morning, and snapped this picture in the bathroom at the printer.

It made me laugh because it’s one of those sayings that most everybody knows and keeps among friends and family, but wouldn’t think to put on a plaque and hang in a public place. But there is was. Right next to the light switch for everyone to see!

I was going to tell them that it made laugh, but if hanging the plaque in the bathroom was TMI, then certainly talking about it outside of the bathroom is inappropriate.

It’s the damn profanity and booze, I’m telling you! Maybe if I didn’t wear pajamas to bed instead of nightgowns, put my hair in curlers, and praised my husband more in public my score will go up. It’s something to work towards.
