March’s NYC crane collapse was one block from my sister’s apartment. The latest crane collapse is forty blocks from my sister’s apartment. The little shrine and the notes on the windows of local businesses at the site of the March accident are really sad, and I imagine the same will pop up on the Upper East Side.

I noticed lots of cranes, scaffolding, and construction when we were in NYC and I can see how it would make people leery to walk down the street.

My weekend trip to New York City is a blur, but luckily I have lots of pictures to help bring it back into focus.

My mom and I landed in New York early Friday morning and hit the ground running. Since we weren’t up to navigating the subway for the very first time with luggage, we had a driver drop us off at my sister’s apartment (who knew 600 square feet could be so spacious?), and we headed out to visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Bryant Park, Crumbs, Carrie’s stoop from Sex in The City, Grand Central Station, and saw Mary Poppins on Broadway (more on that later, it was so good it deserves its own post).

Saturday we got manicures and pedicures, hopped on and off a double decker bus tour all day, visited a Buddhist temple and got our fortune for $1 (excellent outlook for me), ate lunch in Little Italy and bought t-shirts in Chinatown, saw Ground Zero and shopped at Century 21, ate sushi from a conveyor belt and tasted our first Pinkberry.

Sunday we attempted to visit the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty, but the lines were so long because of the holiday weekend that we ended up driving by the Empire State Building on a double decker bus and floating past the Statue of Liberty on the Statton Island Ferry. We also walked through Central Park and had hot dogs and pretzels, had a Frrrozen Hot Chocolate at Serendipity, stopped at Dylan’s Candy Bar, and headed back to Little Italy for dinner and our second Pinkberry of the weekend.

I’m exhausted just recapping the trip! Did I miss anything?

I don’t just want my very own Dyson vacuum, I need my very own Dyson vacuum. As much as I love my weiner dog and will put up with about anything from him, he does shed and easy messy treats and bones, which means that the apartment needs constant vacuuming so it doesn’t smell like a pet store.

Mike’s family visited our new apartment for the first time on Sunday and his mom just raved about our furniture and decorating. I think our apartment looks very nice, but I had to laugh, because everything that we currently own has either been handed down from other family members or purchased at a discount store.
