Sweaters and leggings and tights, oh my!
When the weather turns cold in Austin (which it’s done for approximately 2 days since I moved here in 2010), there are exactly two types of people: 1.) The type that are frozen to the core, convinced a second ice age has descended upon us, and won’t leave the house and 2.) the type that declare it the best day ever when they can dig deep into their closet and pull out tights and sweaters and leggings and hats.
My Chicago roots make me second type of person and I am loving life in Austin these past few weeks with sunny skies and highs in the 50s. I’ve gotten to pull clothes out of my closet that haven’t seen the light of day since I lived in Chicago. I’ve gotten to layer leggings with skirts with boots with winter coats. I’ve gotten to wear scarves! And tights!
Not to mention that my hair hasn’t frizzed and I haven’t had to shave my legs! It’s glorious, I tell you. Simply glorious.
No nonsense tights and leggings have been a staple in my wardrobe since the temps took a dive. My southern wardrobe isn’t exactly delivering on warmth, so being able to layer is everything. I have black cotton leggings that can be layered under dresses and skirts or worn with long tunics and winter coats. I also have a great pair of burgundy tights that instantly updates basics and looks great with boots. I can wear leggings or tights with all my favorite winter clothes or I can layer them underneath lighter pieces to extend my wardrobe and make everything work year round.
Do you like to layer? What are you doing to stay warm this winter?
