Slutty Eggs

If you aren’t familiar with slutty eggs, you’re really missing out on one of the greatest pleasures in life. Slutty eggs are essentially fried or poached eggs placed atop pretty much anything edible so that the yolk gets all over everything on the plate. Like a slut. Or something like that.

One of my simple favorites is warm naan with a sprinkle of garlic salt, a fried egg, and a heap of feta — but all things are better with a slutty egg (or two). Behold…

Slutty Eggs

Brussel Sprouts and Egg Skillet from Naturally Ella–my go-to breakfast.
Shakshuka from Smitten Kitchen–Make a double batch. It freezes beautifully.
Pizza with Sunny-Side-Up Egg and Herb Garden Pesto from Whole Living
Mexican Baked Eggs with Avocado from Closet Cooking
Spaghetti Squash Carbonara from ATX Gluten Free
Spaghettini with Arugula, Pancetta, Herbs, and Eggs from Food & Wine–Don’t you just wanna roll in it?

Breakfast Salad from The Kitchn
Eggs Florentine in Hash Brown Nests from The Kitchn–Eggs Florentine is so under-rated.
Linguine with Asparagus and Egg from Martha Stewart

Have you ever experienced the magic of slapping an egg on top of your breakfast/lunch/dinner? What do you like to make with slutty egg?

Mmmm honestly I didn’t realize this is what it’s called but I do this! I am probably boring but love mine over whatever potatoes I made the night before, or on top of leftover cheesy risotto.

I’m a slutty-egg super fan. Seriously. Love them over a pile of sauteed summer veggies topped with a little cheese…or in a bowl of Cincinnati Chili topped with sour cream, cheese and jalapenos. mmm…loving the naan idea as well. Maybe need to try that this week.

I’m not sure where the “slutty” name came from either…I know Bourdain uses it. I guess I thought it was because the eggs are “over easy.” :D Though, I’ve recently been informed that the term “slutty” is being used to describe baked goods that contain alcohol. Damn…always leave it to people to over-use and ruin a good word. :/

Ha. I guess over easy is the easier explanation.

I’m a slutty egg fan from way back when. My mom used to make killer fried egg sandwiches growing up. Yum.

Woman! You are straight killing me. You know I adore slutty eggs, and now I’m starving to death for them.

My current favorite way is to have them with corned beef hash (aka Who Hash) at Cafe Java. They serve them with the. best. hashrowns (ask for extra crispy). Using the hash and potato to soak up the egg…is, well, orgasmic.

In my research I saw that was a common slutty egg combination. Must investigate further.

I don’t like eggs, slutty or otherwise, but the linguine and asparagus looks yummy.

I’m not sure I know what to say — I eat so many eggs I might as well sprout feathers.

I’m a big fan of slutty eggs (and all forms of sluttery, really.) Lately I’ve been doing a layered thing with healthy leftovers. Whole wheat toast topped with barbecued lentils, spinach, tomatoes, a little cheese, and that gorgeous egg on top. And I’ll throw in a layer of bacon or mashed potatoes if we have those around, too. A poached egg just classes everything up, doesn’t it?

Poached eggs are totally classy. I had one in my ramen today and OH LORD!

That sounds divine! I’ve tried to make a breakfast fried-rice recipe several times and it never turns out right. Any secret recipes?
