Shutterbug
Working with a photographer finally rubbed off on me and I bought a new Canon G10 digital camera. In the week that I’ve had the camera, I’ve never felt so dumb in my entire life.

Shutter speed, aberrations, aperture, ISO, digital zoom, tele-converters. It’s mind boggling how much there is to learn on a camera that’s made for amateurs! I’ve been working out some kinks, figuring out why images blur when I zoom, and completely loving continuous shooting, so while it’s frustrating, it’s also fun. The bowls are my best shot so far, captured in the prop room at work.
My goal isn’t to be a serious photographer, just to take my own images for blogging and fulfill my role as the official family photographer on our trip to Vegas later this month and see what I can capture when we visit the Neon Graveyard.
Any photography tips or tricks are welcome, as well as reading recommendations to help me with my new, complicated hobby!

Oh wow, I’m jealous. My digi cam just finally died on me this week and I have to wait before I can get another one. I miss it.
Congratulations on your new toy

I totally understand you on this one. I have had my “pro” camera as I call it for three years and I still don’t know how to use it, lol

Go to Flickr, and look at the different photos. When you see one you like, click on “more properties” in the right-hand sidebar and it will show you all the settings. I’ve found this VERY useful.
Also…same thing, go to Flickr and look for your camera (http://www.flickr.com/cameras/canon/powershot_g10/) and you can see all the photos taken with it. There were 8,749 items uploaded just yesterday.

Julie – That is AWESOME! Thanks so much.

That is a great idea, Julie. I’ve had my camera for two years and still barely take it off the auto setting. I love it, though. Congrats on the new camera!
