Salma Hayek’s Generous Boobies

I don’t know all the pros and cons of breastfeeding. Everyone in my family has been bottle fed and we’re all happy and healthy. If we ever have kids, bottle feeding would be my preferred method, because frankly, someone sucking on my boob kind of grosses me out, but even I don’t see how anything negative can be said about Salma Hayek breastfeeding a stranger’s baby.

In Sierra Leone, breastfeeding is stigmatized because men are not to have sex with breastfeeding women, so babies are weaned as early as possible, making malnutrition the leading cause of death in a country with the highest infant mortality rate in the world. Babies are breastfed for mere months when medical professionals are recommending two years to combat malnutrition.

The baby was hungry. Salma had milk. She fed the baby. It wouldn’t have been a big deal if she would have pulled a bottle out of her bag, so why is it a big deal that she breastfed a malnourished baby?

It’s unconscionable that because men want sex, babies starve. Maybe the women need to be given weapons, or at least be given a way to earn their own living. Unbelievable.

Someone sucking on my boob kind of grosses me out, too. I wonder if that will change once we have kids, if we have them…

I like your analogy of if she had a bottle versus her boob.

It is just because of the stigma attached to breastfeeding even here in the States. I mean, how crazy is it that we have to have laws making it legal for a woman to breastfeed their child in public.

I heard about this this morning.

    My first reaction was “ewww”.

But then I thought about it. It was generous of her.
