PhoNatic is a bit hidden in the Southpark Meadows shopping center — right next to the Smashburger, so keep your eyes peeled — but it’s easy to get to from I35 and Slaughter Lane. The space is bright and airy with quick-service style dining. And I mean super quick. We’d hardly sat down and started chatting before our food arrived.
Bonus points for being family owned!
I’m a big fan of banh mi and pork buns, so when you combine the two I’m a happy camper. These could have used a tiny bit more sauce (and I realize there’s a fine line with sauce application) but were still really flavorful and tender.
We also sampled the shrimp & pork springrolls, which were super fresh with a peanut sauce that was to-die-for.
My main course was the pho tai chin — beef noodle soup with eye of round and lean brisket. The more bean sprouts the better. Again, super fresh and flavorful. The meat was tender and the vermicelli was al dente, with a nice kick from the jalapenos that were served on the side. The portion was gi-gan-tic for only $7.25. I ordered the regular and it could have easily fed two people.
And what meal is complete without a Vietnamese iced coffee, made with condensed milk and sweetened to perfection over crushed ice? Dessert in a cup.
I’ll definitely be going back to PhoNatic. Great quality, breezy atmosphere, and easy on the pocketbook. Who wants to have dinner?
Thank you to the lovely people at PhoNatic for lunch. All opinions are 100% my own.
