Paramedic vs. Police

This is completely deplorable.

An ambulance was en route to the hospital with a patient; lights and sirens. A police officer was en route to a call; lights and sirens. The police officer got upset that the ambulance didn’t pull over for him, so the officer pulls the ambulance over, with the patient still in the ambulance, and arrests the paramedic.

Not only does the paramedic get arrested, but one of the officers puts a choke hold on him and pins him against the side of the ambulance. All the while, the patient isn’t receiving the medical attention they deserve.

My husband is a paramedic and is forever complaining about the lack of respect that they receive from the general public and other public service employees, and the fact that he could easily be put in the same situation as the paramedic in the video while trying to do his job and help someone in need is completely unacceptable.

I realize the video is an extreme situation, but please treat paramedics with the same respect you would firefighters and police officers. They will likely have to come to your rescue one day.

That’s horrible!! I always pull over for any emergency vehicle. I can’t believe that a police officer would do this. Someone who’s sworn to protect the public should NOT put someone’s life in danger like that!

I was completely astounded by this story. If they want to argue about who has to give way to who, fine. But pulling over an ambulance with a person in distress in it is completely insane.

This is unbelievable! I would love to know what the outcome of this was. Was it a new video or something that happened a while ago? I am totally in shock.

Sadie – I always pull to the side, too. This was just a power struggle by the cop, and it’s a damn shame a patient had to suffer!

Vein – I totally agree. Fight over who had the right of way, but do it after both calls are complete.

Connie – My husband linked to the paramedic’s report and lots more happened than in the video.

Karen – My husband says thank you! You have no idea how much easier that makes their job when people just get out of their way. :-)

Unfortunately as people we are not perfect and we don’t see with perfect clarity as if the glass was dirty. Police officers are people too and are not perfect either. Sometimes there are random moments when unclarity and judgementality and primel instinct come into play. Be it prejudice or racism. We still have not evolved into perfectly understanding and loving human beings.

I agree with what you say it is completely unacceptable ESPECIALLY from a police officer. Of course I agree these people who put their life at risk for everyone else do deserve more respect at least the same that you would show a normal person anyway! I’ve always said paramedics should get paid more. The same as professional footballers maybe!

What ever happened to the police officer? That’s bull! My husband is also a paramedic and if that were the same case they would NOT have pulled over! If they were trying to save someones life instead of having them code! PIGS!!!

Alexis – I never heard anymore about the story so I’m not sure what happened to the police officer. My husband (well, ex-husband now) wouldn’t have pulled over either.
