Pale is the new Tan

A few weeks ago The International Agency for Research on Cancer gave tanning beds the highest cancer risk rating and I immediately made an appointment to see the dermatologist for a full body cancer screening. Which is tomorrow. Two days before my vacation to sunny Texas.

paleApparently my likelihood of having skin cancer is increased by 75% because I made out with the kid that worked at the tanning salon and tanned for free every day for 4 (and a half) years of college.

They compared tanning to arsenic, for Christs’ sake. The guy wasn’t that good of a kisser. But apparently I am since I got 4 (and a half) years of free tanning.

It also doesn’t bode well that I’m covered in beauty marks – and doesn’t anyone else call them beauty marks anymore? They laughed at me at work when I called them that and said you mean MOLES and I said NO because there aren’t any hairs growing out of them you old spinsters. As I’m typing this, I see 27 beauty marks from my elbows down. I might as well have freckles. Somebody get me some lemon juice.

So, basically I’m convinced that I have skin cancer and if I have to get a chunk of my nose or ear removed, I’m totally going after the kid from the tanning salon.

EDIT: Not ten minutes after posting, I get an email BUY ONE MONTH OF TANNING GET ONE FREE! Oy.

I’m so pale it’s kind of sad… I don’t like the tanning booths ever since I burned my boobs in high school. I couldn’t wear a bra with my prom dress so I went in topless. You know those bra cups you can glue on? Yeah – those don’t feel good on burned skin, lol. Anyway, I use the Jergins lotion that tans over time. It’s pretty good. I have only one big mole on my back and I keep it covered cause I watched my mom get one cut off one time and I don’t want to go through that.

I hope it goes well for you. I have a check up in 2 weeks, for the same reasons. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for us both! I didn’t make out with anyone, but I WORKED at a tanning salon. Dun Dun Dunnnn.

    Wow, this has me thinking.

A good friend of mine died at a very young age, with two young kids, leaving her husband to go it alone – all because of her passion for having a tan. From 10 to 3 each day with oil, she’d bake herself. It started with a tiny thing on her arm, then her leg, then it spread into five brain tumors and to her lungs. From that point forward, I have NEVER sought to get a tan, it’s not worth it’s horrible price.

Also knew someone who did similar tanning, and she actually looked like leather.

    No thank you!

I was supposed to have a mole checked out on 11/13 of last year but instead Nemo decided to be born. I am going to reschedule for the 1st of the year! Thanks for the motivation!!
