Olympic Fever
Are you excited about the Olympics? I’m so excited I want to arm wrestle complete strangers just for the thrill of competition!
I’ve always loved the Olympics – though I must admit I prefer the whole shebang every four years. The 1992 winter games in Albertville (how you doin’, Bonnie Blair? You too, Kristi Yamaguchi?) was the first I remember really realizing how amazing the whole thing is – from the history to the preparation to the athletes themselves. And especially that little ticker with the medal count. I become obsessed with our medal count.
And now that the Queen is involved? The anticipation is palpable. Lizzy knows how to throw a helluva party (see: The Diamond Jubilee).
I always look forward to volleyball and swimming, but really? I’ll watch whatever is one. Will you be watching?
PS
I’m choosing to completely ignore London’s ghastly Olympic logo.

That logo makes me want to throw up.
Nevertheless, I’ll be definitely be glued to gymnastics and checking in on the swimming and track and field. Go USA!

I am such an Olympics nut. I’ve been known to hunker down in from of a battery-operated TV when the power goes out so I don’t miss anything. *g*
Although, the age of DVRs, FB, Twitter, etc., sure changes how we watch them and see the results. Kinda takes some of the challenge out of it.

I was listing on NPR about how this will be the first truly digital games and how you can live stream any event from your mobile device. Amazing.

I just don’t have it in me anymore. Maybe once it actually starts but I think it seems so excessive. Huge amounts of money, giant venues, blah.

But the economic impact is so far reaching – the UK ambassador to the US was on NPR this morning talking about the much needed improvements to the London infrastructure that were made and the anticipated revenue generation from the new stadiums and arenas. It was pretty amazing and obvious why countries fight it out to host.

Yeah, that logo totally blows. That being said, yay Olympics!! I love gymnastics (old school, not the rhythmic crap they do now with the ribbons-WTF?) And the men’s diving. Oh, love the men’s diving
And for kicks and giggles I’ll check out the synchronized swimming. How does that makeup stay on? Fascinating.

I forgot about gymnastics! I found it amazing that some athletes found out as late as this week that they’d be competing. Talk about down to the wire!
