Musical Dreams

I’m not a musical person. I can play a mean cover of Hot Cross Buns on the recorder, but that’s about it. Yet, I wake up almost every morning singing a song. A completely random tune that I haven’t consciously heard in I-don’t-know-how-long. Most are practically before my time and I don’t usually remember my dreams so I have no idea what kind of meaning they might hold.

One thing they all have in common – I know every single word.

Here are a few highlights from the last month:

Captain and Tennille – Love will Keep Us Together

Michael Jackson – Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough

Pasty Cline – Blue Moon of Kentucky

Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, and John Lennon where regular dinner guests growing up (my family really don’t like to hear each other chew), so maybe I was dreaming about my family. Or really loud chewing sounds.

Lisa Lisa – Head to Toe

Manfred Mann – Blinded by the Light

I just finished reading This is How by Augusten Burroughs, who also wrote Running with Scissors. This song was on the soundtrack to the film. It’s a stretch, I know.

Alicia Bridges – I Love the Night Life

Journey – Oh Sherry

Cher – Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves

My college roommates used to pick me up from class in a purple Grand AM blaring this song. Maybe I’m trying to relive my youth in my dreams.

Weird, right? Do you have any dream quirks? Reoccurring dreams or dream themes? Do you sleep walk? (That’s another blog post for another day. Needless to say, I used to.)
