Mom to Octuplets has SIX other kids
The story of the mom that was expecting sextuplets but delivered octuplets is getting more and more bizarre.
It’s now being reported that the mother has six other children, four boys and two girls, including a set of twins. A family acquaintance appeared on the CBS Early Show and stated that the mother is young and living with her parents. There doesn’t seem to be a husband or boyfriend in the picture.
There are so many things that I personally think are wrong with this story, beginning with why, when she already has six children which she obviously can’t support since she’s living with her parents, would she choose to undergo fertility treatment? And why does our medical system allow such unnecessary procedures? And why is this birth considered a medical miracle when it’s really a medical disaster waiting to happen?
The whole situation just disturbs me.
UPDATE: This mother is a hot mess. A neighbor is saying that all 14 babies are from a sperm donor!

I was shocked to hear about that too?

My mom was just telling me about this today. Not only does she have six other children, but the oldest is seven. SEVEN. The twins are two, and I believe there’s another younger than two.
I don’t begin to understand why any fertility doctor was willing to do fertility treatments on this woman.

she obviously didn’t need fertility treatments. She will probably make tons of money from tv spots and advertisers. pampers will be thrilled to provide her with diapers. Similac will be thrilled to provide the formula. Gym-bor-ree will provide clothes. Her parents will get a new house with lots of perks. Old Ty Pennington will build them a freaking castle.
Don’t you think that if you already have even 1 child, there should be NO fertility treatments? God has a plan and who are doctors to tamper with that. I believe modern science goes too far. Cloning when there is still cancer–or AIDS? It really boggles the mind!

This whole scenario is a bit wacko.
Anna Glendenning
I heard today that she may have gone South of the U.S. Boarder for the fertility treatments due to the costs of the treatments.
Just a terrible story–why didn’t she just about 8 or 12 children from the foster care system?
I also heard there is ONE donor and he has Paperwork making him financially responsible for Nothing!
Unbelievable…

OMG I havent heard the story but that is gross! Like you said why would the system let her do this!? Shows how stupid some people are really.

this story really makes me angry. i’ve heard a lot of people lumping all women who do fertility treatments in with this case, and that is so unfair. she was irresponsible. her doctor was irresponsible. this never should been able to happen, and i think her doctor should have his/her license revoked.

I agree with you guys on all points. She either has an agenda of some sort or she is crazy. It makes no sense. I feel bad for the kids- how in the world do you get attention and develop any relationship with your mom w/you have 13 other siblings? If she was fostering 14 kids it wouldn’t be on the news….huh, I wonder what her motivation is?

No kidding! I was reading the story this morning too and just shook my head. What a burden on society.
How can a doctor take part in something like this? Don’t they do any background checks to see if the woman is able to care for a child, never mind 14!
There’s definitely something wrong with this picture…

Probably the goal was to get on the news and like someone else said, get the percs. Well, she did it. Mission accomplished.
I feel bad about this on so many levels. How can you give your kids enough quality time when there are that many of them? I have two and sometimes feel like I’m not doing well enough.
And what about people who would love to have kids and can’t? And what about the world that has too many children? And what about tax payer dollars? The whole thing is pretty crazy!

The sperm donor is off the hook, financially! Yes, I agree with Linda Parker. She must have a plan like that, to get the system and the taxpayers to support her. Her full time job will be all of those kids!. Why is this Dr. in practice? Unbelievable!

I read about that in today’s paper. Crazy, eh?
If she can afford to look after them, then okay. But if she has to depend on the welfare system, then no way!

Stacie – Thanks for stopping by. This story keeps getting weirder and weirder. I’m waiting for the mother’s first interview!

Cindy – The doctor should have his license revoked and there should be laws in place to limit the number of eggs implanted. I believe the max is three in the UK.

Linda – As much as the babies need the necessities, I hope the big corporations don’t start throwing products at her. Something isn’t right with this woman, and corporate sponsorships only serve to validate her behavior.

Karen – I’ve heard a few times that the mother is “obsessed” with children. Doesn’t sound healthy to me.

Anna – I wonder if donors know when their sperm is used? Does this guy have any idea that he has 14 kids?

Grace – I just feel sorry for all those kids. They’ll have to fight for attention from their wacko mom.

Cady – I agree. I don’t know how a doctor could prefer the treatment in good conscience. Not only considering the woman’s circumstances, but the sheer number of eggs implanted.

Maureen – It’s like an instant Duggar family…and we all know how I feel about them! These people definitely have an agenda.

Heather – Something definitely needs to be done in the medical community to prevent this from happening again. IVF should be treated like adoption, with background checks and home inspections. Not to mention a limit on the number of eggs implanted.

Wendy – I agree that the woman has an agenda. Wonder if DCS is going to step in?

Barbara – I think all donors are off the hook financially, unless it’s a private donation. The poor donor doesn’t even know he has all these kids!

Christina – I know I still have $20,000 in student loans left to pay, and my parents only had two of us!

Teena – I suspect she’s on, or will be on, some kind of pubic assistance. Beyond that, how do you even care, physically and emotionally, for that many kids? It’s a shame. I feel like they are doomed.

I read another article about this yesterday. The woman’s name is Nadya Suleman, and the oldest four children have a David Solomon listed as their father on their birth certificates. The article also said that all 14 children came from a single sperm donor. My husband informed me that Suleman is Arabic for Solomon, which makes the situation even weirder. Are they related somehow?
From what I understood of the article, a bunch of embryos were “mixed up” (what is the right phrase?) and she has been implanted with a few every couple years. Apparently, the “lifespan” was ending on the embryos and the fertility doctor was going to destroy them. The woman didn’t want to see that happen. (That part I can actually understand because even though they were in the embryo stage, they’re still babies. BUT she didn’t have to keep them all herself. There’s at least one adoption agency [Snowflake Adoption] that matches infertile couples with unneeded/unwanted embryos.) She decided to be implanted with all eight of them rather than have them destroyed.
I can only assume that they didn’t expect all eight to “take.” The woman’s mother was quoted as saying that Nadya is obsessed with having babies and they “she’s out of embryos now so hopefully this is over with.”
Totally bizarre and I feel so sorry for these kids.
But I’d like to say that the automatic assumption that the family will be on welfare bothers me. We don’t know what kind of financial situation they’ve got. They could be loaded already. The woman’s father “Ed” was quoted as saying that already have a huge house somewhere.
Big families don’t automatically equal welfare. That kind of attitude bothers me. (And no I don’t have a huge family.)

Cindy – The public assistance assumption comes from the reports that the parents went bankrupt taking care of the daughter and the entire family is living in the 2 bedroom house they purchased for the daughter. The father saying that they have “a huge house somewhere you’ll never find” is just him being pompous.
While big families don’t necessarily equal welfare, I think it’s safe to assume this family will end up being a burden on society in some way.

Hi Corrin! When I first heard little parts of this I thought it was a married couple where she just had 8 and he had 6 previously, like in the film “Yours, Mine and Ours”. Then to find out the details I was like, “WHAT?”. Cue “Twilight Zone” theme! What is this girl thinking?!!
Joan
Hi Corrin! I was just reading more about this on my mobile web news. The hospital got the mother hooked up with a PR firm or agent and she’s getting book and film rights offers and even offers to do a TV show on parenting. She’s apparently gotten literally hundreds of offers. It’s a way to pay the bills, but it’s also another way these kids are not going to have a normal life, or privacy for that matter. It all just seems so unethical.
Corrin
Twitter: CorrinRenee
Joan – I heard that the mother is asking $2 million for her first interview. That’s absurd. This is the last woman that should be filming a parenting show and giving advice to other mothers.
Joan
Hi Corrin! $2 million for an interview? Wow. Someone like her deserves less attention, instead of all the publicity she’s getting. When I read that about the parenting show I thought man, these PR people must think viewers are starved for new programming. Having this woman doing a parenting show is like making Paris Hilton a film expert. Now I know why I like watching Turner Classic Movies so much is that back in the day people had to prove they had a talent to be called a “star”. Nowadays they want to “starrify” everybody!
