Kitchen Scissors

I’m was reluctant to blog about this because it’s so stupid, but my husband deserves a little harmless public humiliation for cutting his own hair today. And it should be known that not even I, with all my numerous cuts and colors over the years, have ever attempted to cut my own hair. It’s never even crossed my mind.

Except for that one time with the monkey safety scissors when I was 3 and my dad fell asleep while babysitting.

But enough about me. Back to Mike cutting his own hair.

Over the past few days, he became so fixated with needing a haircut that he apparently couldn’t wait for the 2 long, tortuous, endless days until payday and decided to trim his own hair.

With kitchen scissors.

Which led to an emergency trip to Sally Beauty Supply for trimmers, and by the time I came home he looked like Christopher “Kid” Reid.

Yes – that’s my bra in the background, thank you for noticing.

But the best part – the best part – of his haircut is the back. Mike learned just how ineffective kitchen scissors are in cutting the back of your own hair. After taking several pictures and nearly peeing my pants laughing, I did try to help make it look like he’s stopped molting.

In defense of this post, Mike prepared me for his haircutting debacle before I got home from work and even said “On the bright side, you have something good to blog about.”

Thanks to my help it doesn’t look that bad. See what a good wife I am? I may get a good laugh at his expense, but in the end I pull through.

But while he’s away at work, I will be removing all sharp objects from the house.

  1. I bet I’ll never be told we don’t have money for a haircut again.

  2. I used to cut my husband’s hair with this electric razor thingy that had different attachments depending on how short you wanted the hair to be cut. I had cut 75% of his hair and left the room for a minute to get something. When I returned, he handed me the razor again and I went right back to buzzing where I left off. He yelped and got all upset – he had changed the attachment and now the hair on top of his head was WAY shorter than the rest.

I maintain it’s his fault for not telling me he changed the attachment. He says it’s my fault for not paying better attention.

Ending: he pays someone to cut his hair now. It’s worth the $12.

  4. Mike – You weren’t told we didn’t have money. You were told you had to wait two days for money.

  5. Courtney – Clearly his fault. :-) And I think $12 is a small price to pay to not look like a chicken.

  6. Michelle – Feel free to show this post to your husband as a warning, just in case he can’t wait till payday and decides to take his fate into his own hands.

  8. My wife’s been cutting my hair since we got married and before that I did cut my own hair, but I never went as far as using scissors ;) I just buzzed it all off with the electric clippers and went on my way. Like I always say, I’m not the one who has to look at it, you all are ;)

  12. Hmm… well I am right there with you on criticizing the use of the scissors… but I cut my own hair with clippers all the time, and it always goes okay. The only part that I ever have ANY trouble with at all is getting the edge in the back to be straight, but with two mirrors it gets done with just a little extra effort.

  14. I was actually interested in getting a Flo-bee. But I dropped the idea because I’m too askeered. I’m sure that it would be worth it after the whole trial-and-error issues were worked out. ;)

  15. @Michael My mom had a Flo-bee when I was a kid and cut all our hair, 6 boys. She was pretty aggressive with the thing so we hated it but it really worked well. If I have any boys, I will surely consider getting one. They work great.

  17. My DH thought it would be a great way to save money if I cut his hair. He went out and bought the clippers and said here you go. Now it’s my chore. UGH!

I wish he would just go to a barber. I’ll even pay! lol
