Got any jumper cables? My thyroid stalled on me.
After talking to my doctor about not feeling well, he ordered a blood test and within 48 hours I had a diagnosis and a prescription. Hypothyroidism and 50 mg of Synthroid every day for the rest of my life. Of course, Hypothyroidism is one of those conditions where there’s no straightforward course of treatment, so I may or may not be on the right dosage of the right medication.
I tried to do some research online, but the results ranged from Hypothyroidism during pregnancy being linked to lower IQ for child to foods that help chronic fatigue to asking my doctor for an antidepressant because I just might be crazy. That’s until I found a blog called The F-Word, and while the author may not be a doctor and it may not be specifically about thyroid disorders, it is the best round-up of information (with sources) that I’ve been able to find. Plus, it’s not all doom and gloom.
So, I’ve started on my medication and have another blood test scheduled in six weeks. I’ve been urged by several people to find a good endocrinologist as it is highly unlikely that a simple prescription will cure what ails me.
Has your thyroid crapped out on you, too? What’s been your method of treatment? Have you tried anything not so…medicinal? Change in diet or exercise? Perhaps adding vitamins?
I’m new to this life-long affliction, so fill me in!

I can’t offer any advice. My mom was a “medication for life” thyroid patient. Pain in the butt, but once they help you get regulated it shouldn’t hold you back. Sending lots of good health vibes your way!

Oh my goodness. Good thing you are working on this. I have heard that when the Thyroid is off it can make you feel really bad. I hope you get the meds regulated quickly.
