I have a guilty pleasure – teen novels. It all started with Francesca Lia Block when I was in middle school and I’ve been hooked ever since.blueplatespecial1

My latest teen novel read was Blue Plate Special by Michelle D. Kwasney which I devoured in two days and did not disappoint. How could it with a tagline like this…

Doomed loves, failed families, nixed dreams—someone else’s leftovers are heaped on our plates the day we come into this world.

Kwasney does an excellent job of weaving the lives of three different women from different decades into a single story, giving the story much more depth than you would expect from a teen novel. The main characters – Madeline, Desiree and Ariel – and all likeable and endearing despite all of their struggles.

I hesitate to give away too much, because the unexpected twists and turns are what keep the pages turning…and because I have a copy to give away to one of my readers!

Here’s how to enter…

Tell me a little something about your reading habits. Do you have a favorite genre? A favorite author? How often do you read? Where do you read? During your lunch break? In bed?

The fine print… Entries will be accepted until midnight, Friday, November 13th. One winner will be chosen at random and announced on Saturday, November 14th. Winner will be contacted by email and/or Twitter and will have 48 hours to respond. Please use your real first name and a valid email address when entering. I am not responsible for incorrect contact information. Prize will be shipped directly from sponsor. Good luck!

I tend to read women’s fiction the most. I love stories of families and love but I am with you on having a guilty pleasure in YA novels.

  2. Amber G says

I am so busy but I try to read in what little free time I have. I don’t have a favorite author but my favorite genre tends to be nonfiction and historical fiction!

  3. Leann S says

I read mostly cozy type mysteries plus some horror and police procedurals. My email and blog name “Qwill Pen” come from The Cat Who books by Lillian Jackson Braun. In the summer I love to float int he pool and read. Other times I read curled up in bed.

  4. McKim says

I love to read, but I go through phases. Sometimes I like mysteries, other times romance novels, other times family type stories. I like to sit in the recliner in a room by myself and read – no tv, just me and the dogs curled up with a good book, cup of tea, and a fuzzy blanket.

  5. Sue says

I read in bed every night. It’s usually the only chance I get. I love historical fiction, but I’ll read nearly anything that’s recommended to me. Thanks for the giveaway.

My favorite genre is Mysteries and Police Procedureals. I have too many favorites to mention. In my younger days I devoured several a week, but in recent years it takes me a while to finish a book.
I usually read in bed and it only takes a few minutes to make me sleepy anymore.
If I win I have a grandaughter who will love this book.

  7. Ellie W says

I read every night in bed. My favorite genre is mystery, but I’ll read just about anything. Thanks for the giveaway.

My favorite genre is now celebrity memoirs. I feel a bit trashy for reading all of them but I like the look into their private lives.

I read as often as I can…honestly, I read a bit of everything. For me, it is mostly about the quality of writing rather than the genre.

I am also hooked on teen novels, such as The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong, The Cirque Du Freak series by Darren Shan, the adventures of Jackie Faber by L.A. Meyer, and the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. Here are my reading habits: Is it a book that’s not a romance? Okay, I’ll read it :)

  12. Pamela S says

I like to read different genres and to mix them up. If I’ve read a long, heavy book like Jodi Picoult, then I’ll follow it with a funny, fluffy book like Jennifer Crusie. I love to read in bed! Thanks so much! pamelashockley(AT)netscape(DOT)net

  13. Brittany says

I love teen novels and they’re pretty much all I ever read.I don’t really have a favorite author but usually anything by Stephenie Meyer,Sarah Dessen,or Francesca Lia Block is enough for me:)

  14. Gaye McGill says

I read a lot, mostly out on the sun porch, and I try to switch genres (mystery, historical, humor), but nothing too serious. I do my serious reading at work and at home I like to relax and unwind.
