Four Foods on Friday
Four Foods on Friday is getting a little crazy this week. It’s all about weird ways we eat normal foods.
1. What’s the oddest thing you’ve ever made with bread?
A brown sugar sandwich. White bread, butter, and brown sugar. A friend in college was addicted to them. I think it’s a southern thing.
2. What’s the oddest thing you’ve ever done with mac and cheese or pasta?
I mix stuff in with my pasta all the time. Tuna, peas, broccoli, artichokes, cheese. I’ve also made pasta in the oven, microwave, and crock pot.
3. Is there a food you eat other then it is intended?
I would say ketchup on eggs, but not as many people are grossed out by that anymore. I dip shrimp in Ranch dressing instead of cocktail sauce.
4. What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever seen?
Fresh conch in the Bahamas. The fisherman pulled it right out of the ocean, dug it out of its shell, and chopped it up and ate it. If I were to go back, I’d definitely try it.

How is Atkins going?
I’ve never heard of the brown sugar sandwich, but I LOVE brown sugar so I might have to give it a try.

Laurie – I’m loosely following Adkins and am down 11 pounds in about 18 days. I’ve basically cut everything white out of my diet. Sugar, bread, pasta, flour. Surprisingly, it’s been pretty easy. I hope to be down another 20 pounds by my birthday.

Liza – I’ve never heard the white sugar variation, but I also never knew the sandwich existed until someone served it to me. Haha.

Clair – More people know about the sugar sandwich than I thought!
Lynne
A brown sugar sandwich? I think that also falls under the category of using a food in a way it was not intended!

Brown sugar sandwich!!! I used to make cinnamon toast. That’s about as close as I came to a brown sugar sandwich.

Hi Corrin! I love mac & cheese with peas, tuna and a can of cream of celery soup mixed in. That’s a real comfort food! So is mac & cheese made with milk, margarine, relish and Miracle Whip, topped with 8 fish sticks in a wagon wheel pattern and wedge or diced tomatoes in the center and between the “spokes” I think my mom said brown sugar sandwiches were something her family had during the depression. She was born in 1934 but remembers having some favorites from those made during the 20s and 30s.

Lynne – I think you’re right. A brown sugar sandwich does double duty. Not to mention, the same friend used to put brown sugar on white rice!

Sheri – You can dip ANYTHING in Ranch.

Karen – Cinnamon toast was my dad’s specialty when he made breakfast! We used to get those cinnamon sugar shakers that were shaped like different characters, remember those?

Joan – That is one serious mac & cheese recipe!

I answered #3 by admitting that in high school, I ate bread and butter sprinkled with sugar as an after school snack. Internet twins, I tell ya
