Four Foods on Friday

Fun, Crafts and RecipesI would love to claim that I have been overwhelmed with holiday gatherings and celebrations, which is why I didn’t submit this week’s Four Foods on Friday on time, but I was really just savoring the time off work and couldn’t get myself to do anything productive for the past three days.

I hope some of you can claim the celebrations were endless and that you had a great holiday!

1. Do you prefer cooking with electric or gas?

Gas. It’s easier to control the temperature and I don’t boil over as often.

2. How many times a month do you order out?

“Order out” means delivery in our house, which we rarely do. Maybe once every 2-3 months.

3. How do you like your ice – cubed or crushed?

Crushed. When my husband and I were dating and he came to dinner at my parents house for the first time, he nicknamed us the Rockefellars because our refrigerator made crushed ice. That’s not so uncommon, is it?

4. Share a Christmas recipe.320922332 0b435f3044 o

My favorite Christmas cookie is Florentine lace cookies, and my mom made them for the first time in a very long time this year.

Cookies

  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 2 cups quick oats, uncooked
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (and use the good stuff!)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Filling

  • 2 cups chocolate chips

Preheat over to 375 degrees. Melt butter in a saucepan. Remove from heat; stir in oats, sugar, flour, corn syrup, milk, vanilla extract and salt; mix well. Drop by teaspoonfuls, 3 inches apart, onto a foil-lined cookie sheet. Spread thin with spatula. Bake for 5-7 minutes. Let cool on cookie sheet then peel away from foil.

Melt chocolate chips until smooth. Spread chocolate on flat side of each half of cookies and press two halves together.

I’m not sure, but it seems that most refrigerators that have built in ice makers give a choice of crushed or cubed, at least that’s the way it’s been with the ones I’ve owned. :-D

    that is pretty ritzy–LOL
As far as I know, most have water and cubed ice but I have seen crushed. I think crushed regenerates faster.
I prefer when Mike grills–for sure! Less clean-up!

Use that ice to make a nice smoothie, fresh bananas, splash of honey, frozen berries and some ice. I like mine thick. Aren’t you afraid that it might blow up with all that gas too? I’ll stick with my electric stuff lol

You know, my last fridge had an ice crusher but my new one doesn’t – and I never even noticed til you asked! That’s how often I use ice…

Florentine Lace is such a lovely name for a cookie. They look yummy :)

    Let’s see….

    *I prefer cooking with gas
*I order out 0 times because we live right on a borderline and every place claims they don’t come here! But we do go get take out ourselves-I’d say 2 times per month average

*Crushed ice! I love to chomp on it- although it makes me drink faster since I’m trying to eat the ice. My refrigerator has both options. I live with someone who likes cubes…

*no recipe details to share, but I do have a recipe somewhere for Pastachio cake that is outstanding! Yum

Gas – it’s so much easier to adjust and get things right

Eating out – counts as fast food for us, and I’m trying to drop these lousy last 10 lbs, so very rarely. And overall, not as often as my family “could” with the current economic times – pinching every penny.

Crushed but I do not have a refrig that does it for me so I generally pick off the bottom of the bag of ice we pick up at the convenience store LOL!

And… diet be damned… please send me cookies! :)

    Happy New Year!

lol – my husband was impressed that we had crushed ice, too, when we were dating. I always thought it was normal in refrigerators these days. :)

We order out maybe twice a month. Cook electric, unless my husband fires up the gas grill. The ice maker is always on, make the half moon shape. But, hey those cookies look
    yummy!

Lynne – You must have a crushed ice maker, too. My family will be the Rockefeller’s and yours can be the Hilton’s. Haha.

  • Corrin

Linda – my family is a far cry from ritzy. Haha.

  • Corrin

Blueeyes – the only way it would blow up is if someone turned the dial without pressing the ignition and it was left running for hours…probably days.

I babysat for a family that had a gas range, and the oldest girl was being a brat, running around the house turning on and off lights. She hit her peak when she turned on all the burners on the stove though, and I never babysat for them again after their dad heard me yelling at her for trying to blow us up. Haha.

  • Corrin

Anele – You must try the recipe! For something lighter, don’t sandwich the cookies together with chocolate. When made right, they are very thin and crunchy. Super good with coffee!

  • Corrin

Karen – My favorite cookie; as long as they are nice and thin and not big hunky things. Ick.

  • Corrin

NIX – They are super easy, and I bet you have most the ingredients in your cabinet!

  • Corrin

Cady – They are too good for words. I can’t believe I always forget how easy they are to make!

  • Corrin

Owen – You’re part of the crushed ice elite, too! Haha.

  • Corrin

Heather – I’m a total ice snob. If I’m at home, I won’t use ice from a try, but I’ll use crushed ice. If I’m out, any kind of ice will do, but I prefer that it be crushed or just a few cubes.

The more I blog, the more I realize how insane I really am. Haha.

  • Corrin

Maureen – I grew up out in the sticks, and no one would ever deliver pizza! It was terrible.

  • Connie

LOL at the crushed ice! Love the cookie recipe. I’d have to be really forced to bake though, like made to be guilty or something. And I miss cooking with gas, but I’m used to electric now.

Connie – Not a baker? I’m used to electric now, too. Not that I’m whipping up gourmet meals every night or anything for it to make a big difference. haha.

Thanks for the recipe, as if I need any more cookies this holiday season lol. Wishing you and your family a happy holiday season.
