Early Bird
I think it’s time to admit that I’m a morning person. I’ve never been a night owl (you can ask my college roommates) and I wasn’t one of those teenagers that slept till noon (ala my sister). But the older I get it seems like no matter how late I stay up (and by late, I mean past 10 pm), I’m up by 6 am (or earlier). What about weekends and vacations, you ask? I’m always the first one up. It’s getting to the point where I’m confident I could wake up for work without an alarm.
And this weekend’s switch to daylight savings time is just terrible! Part of the allure of being a morning person is being able to enjoy sunshine and birds chirping while everyone else is still tucked away. I don’t give a hoot if it’s light at 9:30 at night if it means it’s pitch dark at 7 in the morning when I’m trying to be the morning person I am.
They say that the early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. That cheese is tempting, but it’s staggering the things I can get done before 8 am.
So. Are you a night owl or a morning person? No judgement. Though if you comment after 8 pm I probably won’t respond until 6 the next morning.

I’m really neither extreme. I like to go to bed by 10 and ideally sleep till 7 or 8 (if someone lets me sleep in).
In college I was def a night owl though…stayed up late and slept late whenever possible.
I do envy morning folks though – mornings seem to be such a quiet, productive time.

I should probably also admit that I’m an award-winning napper. I don’t nap for 20 or 30 minutes. I nap for 2 or 3 hours at a time.

I’ve never been a night owl, but I can sleep in no matter how early I go to bed the night before. I swear I was a cat in a previous life.

A cat. Or Ollie.

I’d rather get up early and get my day started. I’m not the type to enjoy a lazy weekend. Being a freelancer means I don’t take days off. And vacation? Forget about it.

I’m a busy body. My ex used to complain that I didn’t know how to relax and sit still. Though he could sit on the couch and play video games for 8 hours staight, so…

Just found your blog! I’m a total morning person! I’ve been sleeping in too late recently and I’m noticing it’s messing with me. I feel much happier when I go to bed early/wake up early.

New reader! Thanks so much for commenting.
Early to bed, early to rise! I function much better as a morning person, too.

Such a night owl.
I always say when I tell people “I’m not a morning person” they don’t get I mean anytime before noon.

I think we’re exact opposites!

I am the biggest night owl ever. I do my best work between 9pm and 2am. I prefer to be up late- it’s quiet and I can concentrate and focus really well. I’m typing this at 1:11am and it’s awesome

2 am is dangerously close to being an early bird. Give it time.
