Double Cheeseburger vs. The McDouble

Starting in December, the $1 double cheeseburger will be $1.19 and the double cheeseburger will be replaced with the McDouble. Confused? Let me break it down for you.

A $1 double cheeseburger was two beef patties and two pieces of cheese. The new $1.19 McDouble is two beef patties and one piece of cheese.

That means McDonald’s is raising the price because of the price of cheese and taking away a slice of cheese from every sandwich. Sounds like they are being doubly compensated for that piece of cheese!

Heh, heh… I think you are right on that! Smart way to save money while increasing the price – and most people won’t even realize it happened…

I hadn’t heard this. The double cheeseburger went up in our area, it’s between $1.19 and $1.49 now with the two pieces of cheese.

Well, it is also “cheese” to begin with. I can take the dubious patties but the cheese they use is nasty!

I don’t eat McDonald’s. Not since seeing the Vegetarian anti-meat propaganda. I love a good steak as much as the next guy, but I’m pretty sure that my Prime Rib isn’t cobbled together from cow lips and eyeballs (can’t say the same for McDonald’s — they say it’s 100% beef, but which part of the beef?).

Heather – You’re right. I think McD’s is banking on most people not even noticing the change.

  • Corrin

Val – I stopped at McD’s this weekend, and the original double cheeseburger is still on the Dollar Menu in our area.

  • Corrin

Nix – that melted cheese is what makes the double cheeseburger so good!

  • Corrin

Owen – Tragic is right! You can never have too much cheese.

  • Corrin

Mark – I don’t think the cheese is bad! The tell-tale sign of bad cheese is when it won’t melt. Haha.

  • Corrin

Vein – You’re the second person to say how nasty the cheese at McDonald’s is, and I’ve never noticed. Maybe I’m not as picky about my cheese as I thought.

  • Corrin

Sadie – I rarely order cheeseburgers, but unfortunately I haven’t kicked my McD’s habit complete. Damn snack wraps!

  • Corrin

Bhing – I wonder if they will add an extra slice of cheese for an extra charge?

  • Corrin

Michael – I don’t know much about the meat packing industry, but I’m pretty sure we aren’t eating cow eyeballs in our cheeseburgers.

I stopped in McD’s today. The double cheeseburger was nowhere to be seen on the menu but I asked and could have bought it for $1.49. I didn’t see the McDouble, or anything double for that matter. It went from single to triple.

Good detective work, Val! Though, a triple cheeseburger does make me want to gag. Blahhh.

I had to run out to Target in the next town over. On the way home I passed another McD and they had on their sign out front “Double cheeseburgers on dollar menu”. That McD is 5 miles away from the one I mentioned in the earlier comment. Funny how they’re all a little different.

Val – I wonder why that is. Is it part of the nature of being a franchise? Some stores catch on sooner than others or are allowed to make small menu changes of their own?
