As I spent an entire sunny Sunday afternoon holed up in my closet putting away laundry and sorting through clothes, I realize that I probably have enough clothes, shoes, and accessories to dress a dozen women. Maybe more.
I have clothes in four different sizes from three different decades. I have shoes I haven’t worn since high school. I have jewelry that seemingly appeared out of thin air. I have clothes that still have the tags on them. I have to buy more hangers every time I go to Target.
So, I’ve lost my mind and decided that I’m taking a sabbatical. A shopping sabbatical. And I want you to join me. Mainly so I have someone to bitch to commiserate with.
Here’s what I’m proposing:
3 months of no shopping. Today through August 1st. No new clothes, shoes, or accessories.
I clearly don’t need anything and I don’t really want anything (shocking, I know), so I’m going to take these three months to dig around in my closet and see exactly what is in there. Wear new combinations, see what fits, and take some risks.
Oh, and save some money.
Will you join me?
Please say yes.

I know Jane Birkin made the basket as bag famous, but really? She’s Jane Birkin. What didn’t she make famous? But her infamous basket as purse malfunction is the reason the Birkin bag exists, so the reliability of the basket is questionable, at best.
Which is all to ask: are you guys feeling (and buying) the wicker trend? Or is it better left to picnics and Golden Girls reruns? I’m on a great big wicker fence. I am loving the Zara rounded wicker satchel, but I think I can do without the rest.
1. Zara wicker handbag $26 (sold out)
2. Kate Spade Delavan Terrace Little Nadine $398
3. Kohl’s wood and wicker bangle bracelet set $24
4. ASOS wicker bangles $14.32
5. Jessica Simpson Cizal Sandal $98
6. Tory Burch Dalcin Wicker Platform $395
7. Ravel leather & wicker sling back wedge $93.11
8. Tory Burch Vivian Rattan Clutch $123
Ever since I got back from Chicago, I feel like everything has been in a tizzy. Work’s been busy, weird things have happened at home (Rattlesnakes! Everywhere!), and my to-do list is never ending (Really, Texas? Do I have to get my two year old Prius inspected every year?). But I still make time to over share on Instagram.
Fresh flowers make everything better. A birthday bouquet of iris’ in my office, bluebonnets blooming on the walking path, orchids that make a Saturday trip to Costco totally worth it, and hyacinth so full of blooms it flops over (in front of my never-ending stack of client folders).
Several days this week were Starbucks days (Iwonder if the caffeine has anything to do with feeling like I’m in a tizzy?) and ice caramel macchiatos are my drink of choice. I had lunch at one of my favorite restaurants in Austin, 24 Diner, and let me tell you, they really know how to make a slutty egg sandwich (that’s eggs over easy for those of you who haven’t discovered the wonderfulness that is runny eggs on top of everything). I also recreated dinner from one of my favorite Chicago restaurants, Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Co., with salad dressing and seasonings that took up most of my luggage on the flight home (note: TSA will search your luggage when it’s filled with ice packs and glass bottles). Homemade naan isn’t a shabbyy alternative to their Mediterranean bread.
The weather was beautiful early in the week (It was beautiful later in the week, too, but I go into hibernation when temperatures creep into the 90s) so Ollie and I did some serious hiking. According to Map My Run (and my left knee), we logged 24 miles.
A sale, free shipping, and an additional 15% off coupon helped me get over myself and order the Eat Cake for Breakfast bag I’ve been ranting and raving about for months. A very sneaky friend that totally gets me (and that I didn’t know read my blog) sent the matching clutch for my birthday. The pretty Kate Spade packaging was just as exciting as the purses themselves. I’d order again just for the fanfare of unwrapping.
Is there an Instagram photo (or dozen) that sums up your week?
Cardigans are a staple in my wardrobe (le duh). I wear them year-round with button-ups, dresses, tees, and tanks. Rarely do you see me without a cardigan, so this mustard-colored (a new neutral IMO) Lands’ End crew cardigan worked itself into my wardrobe like an old friend. One that I turned to on four separate occasions this week for wardrobe support (and even slept with – without regrets, of course).
Ever the consummate fashion blogging professional, I’ve Instagram’ed my outfit choices to share.

The lovely people at Lands’ End provided me with the cardigan pictured to add to my wardrobe. Please see my site policy with any questions.
