I’m currently reading Marriage Confidential and there’s all sorts of heavy talk about feminism and the “have it all” mentality. Meanwhile, I can’t stop busting into the Enjoli commercial (complete with dramatic arm motions and raspy Broadway voice) every time I make dinner, throw in a load of laundry, or sit down to balance my checkbook.

I’m not a very good feminist.

Congratulations to the winner…@Keelydeux!

Thank you all for the kind and witty comments and for reading my blog for 9 whole years!

I’m no Oprah (or Pioneer Woman for that matter – have you seen her 12 days of Christmas? Someone is doing quite well for themselves. ) but I wanted to celebrate my 9-year blogoversay by giving one reader a token of my affection.

By which I mean, a Kindle.

Yes, it’s the one with ads. And yes, it’ll arrive after the holidays. But it’s the thought that counts, right? It’s one of my favorite things so I thought I’d share something I love with the people I love.

Just leave a comment – something nice, like a link to something pretty, your favorite macaroni & cheese recipe, or a promise to name your first born Corrin – and I’ll pick a random winner on New Year’s Day. If you really want to help me celebrate, follow me on Twitter, check out Oh Hey on Facebook, and/or subscribe to my feed.

Thanks for helping me celebrate my blogoversary, bitches! xo.

The fine print…This giveaway is sponsored by yours truly. Amazon has no idea who I am but they do know my credit card number. I’ll make every effort to contact the winner, but please verify your information before hitting submit. One entry per person, US only, Kindle will ship directly from Amazon after payday.

  • Pretty sure I’m going to need a Little Printer. What a stinkin’ adorable way to print pictures, notes, and lists…oh how I love lists (which I’ve inherited from my father).
  • I shared some of my favorite trinkets in this Under $25 Gift Guide guest post. Check it out.
  • This Jonathan Adler studded porcelain box is lovely. And by lovely I mean a perfect gift for me.

I recognized and accept that my legs do not look like this in colored tights.

Pump it up.

Good

Bad

  • These past two weeks have been the pits. The friendliest divorce ever is no longer amicable. I just want it over with.
  • Ollie is having anxiety issues and peeing in the house. On his food and water bowls. This is not only bad, it is also gross.

In Between

  • I couldn’t pull the trigger on the iPhone switch today. I just couldn’t. I’ll just have to wait 176 days until my upgrade discount and (hopefully) the iPhone 5.
  • I had my annual gynecologist appointment this week and the doctor came back into the exam room to verify my age because she didn’t think that I could possibly be 31 years old. I told her to tell that to my ovaries.
  • The catastrophic failing of my tomato pie. The recipe looks fabulous, it has rave reviews, but mine was greasy and the crust was undercooked. I had chips and salsa for dinner instead. And I would have had a margarita if it wasn’t Sunday.

I’ve always been a bit of a bookworm, but since starting work in the publishing industry my to-read list has grown exponentially. To the point where I don’t think I’ll ever be able to possibly read everything I want to – not unless I marry rich and move to my own private island (with wifi and UPS delivery, obviously)(and my dog)(and a full staff because really? who has time for laundry when there are books to be read).

Enough daydreaming. I’ve chosen my top 10 summer reads and I’m determined to finish them all. By Christmas.

What’s on your to-read list this summer?

1. The Man in the Rockefeller Suit: The Astonishing Rise and Spectacular Fall of a Serial Imposter – Contrary to what some may think, having a crushed ice maker built into the front of the refrigerator does not a Rockefeller make. But really, who doesn’t want to live like a Rockefeller? Also, his glasses are super cool.

2. Marriage Confidential: The Post-Romantic Age of Workhorse Wives, Royal Children, Undersexed Spouses, and Rebel Couples Who Are Rewriting the Rules – Studying up for next time. Clearly.

3. Effie: The Passionate Lives of Effie Gray, John Ruskin and John Everett Millais – A Victorian socialite? An unconsummated marriage!? A scandalous love triangle!?! Sign. Me. Up.

4. Blood, Bones & Butter: The Inadvertent Education of a Reluctant Chef – I know the culinary world is super trendy as of late, but I can’t pass up a good food inspired memoir. It’s always been one of my favorite genres.

5. The Wilder Life: My Adventures in the Lost World of Little House on the Prairie – I distinctly remember reading all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books in 4th grade. I also distinctly remember deciding that I was an indoor-girl after reading that the Ingalls sisters played ball with a pig bladder.

6. What Alice Forgot – Alice thinks she’s 29 years old, happily married, and pregnant with her first child. Alice is really 39 years old, a mother of three, and in the midst of a nasty divorce. That’s one hell of a hangover.

7. The First Husband: A Novel – I swear I’m not picking these titles on purpose. Everywhere I go this book is being recommended to me, so I feel obligated to add it to my list in case it leads me to some earth-shattering revelation.

8. Lies that Chelsea Handler Told Me (A Chelsea Handler Book/Borderline Amazing Publishing) – I like Chelsea Handler just enough to find her mildly amusing. I’m relying on her editors and Photoshop to pull me through her latest book (because lets be honest, if you saw Chelsea Handler on the street you would think she’s one rough looking broad).

9. Wendy and the Lost Boys: The Uncommon Life of Wendy Wasserstein – A navel-grazing Pulitzer Prize winning playwright and screenwriter turned fag hag (I say that with a twinge of jealousy – I need some more gays in my life)? Let the shenanigans begin!

10. Maine – A dysfunctional family, a lovely summer cottage in Maine, and gallons of vodka. Sounds delightful.

Honorable mentions:

Affiliate links within! I’m going to be rich! I’ve purchased all these books myself, so I feel confident in my recommendations.
