Carry-on Essentials

This post was brought to you by the makers of Tic Tac® mints. I received compensation to write this post though all opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the sponsors that make this blog possible.

Every month for the past 12 months I’ve been lucky enough to travel. Through lost luggage, broken zippers, and lots of tears, I’ve learned to carry-on only and I’ve gotten good at bringing only the essentials. Since most of what I carry-on is stowed away in the overhead compartment, I make sure what I keep with me at my seat helps cover these basic demands:

  1. Stay comfy.
  2. Stay hydrated.
  3. Stay busy.

Here are some of my carry-on essentials. What do you keep in your carry-on?

Carry-on Essentials

Oversized bag  A must to carry all my essentials…plus anything I buy during my travels.

Scarf & Socks Airplane temperatures can be unpredictable so a large scarf keeps me warm and serves as a pillow when it’s time for a quick nap. Comfy socks make it okay to kick off my shoes and always help me feel more relaxed.

Water Bottle / Evian Facial Mist / Vaseline Lip Therapy I make it a priority to stay hydrated during travel so that I don’t start to feel tired and sluggish. A reusable water bottle doesn’t take up much room and is a lifesaver when I’m stuck on the tarmac or in a cab line,  Evian Facial Mist freshens my makeup and perks me right up, and Vaseline Lip Therapy keeps lips moisturized with a nice rosy tint.

Playlist & Headphones I’m a nervous flyer, so I like to have my favorite tunes at the ready to take my mind off of being 30,000 feet in the air.

Good Book You can only people-watch for so long before it gets creepy, so I always travel with a good book to keep me busy during long flights and delays.

Mints The perfect travel companion, Tic Tac® mints are small and shareable and keep your breath fresh. Wherever you travel, Tic Tac® mints mints can go with you.

Not pictured: Snacks I usually travel with a stash of KIND bars so I don’t have to rely on miniscule bags of peanuts and fast food.

  1. I will add on some sort of entertaining but trashy magazine, and a good powder compact for the inevitable travel-oil-face-ness.
I assume you’ve had them, but the blueberry pecan Kind bars are the BEST. I live off of them now.

  2. I don’t travel often because I am an extreme homebody. BUT I am going to Seattle for like a week for work in the next month, and your tips definitely help. Reading on a plane makes me airsick, so I usually just stick to my iPod and try to nap. It’s an exciting life I lead.

  3. Well, my luggage has been lost enough times for me to know to bring a change of clothes (if possible) or a change of underwear (at least) in my carry-on. The memorable time US AIR lost my luggage for 9 of the 12 days of my European vacation (thanks for that), I had a useless carry-on full of snacks.

Speaking of which, while in London this past May, I discovered the *divine* flavor that is Apple Tic-Tacs. Haven’t seen them here yet, but I live in hope!
