Almost three years ago, Mike and I were all set for a trip to London. We were packed, had an itinerary, tickets to an art exhibit and the London Eye, and our mouths were watering for Pizza Express and Wagamama.

Then, two days before our flight, my grandma died.

We hadn’t told her we were planning a trip because she was sick and didn’t like the idea of us gallivanting all over Europe, but my aunt had slipped and told her. She never mentioned that she knew we were going, but we like to joke that she spoiled our vacation on purpose.

If you knew my grandma, that’s a totally realistic possibility.

We had booked our flight and hotel through British Airways, and they were super understanding of the situation – offering their condolences and refunding our trip. That’s when I vowed to fly British Airways the next time an international flight – not just a trip to London – was in our future.
