Advances in Stem Cell Research

AmeliaI have a new baby cousin, Amelia, and I don’t know if it is my maternal instinct kicking in or just cute overload, but I just want to hug her and squeeze her and put her in my pocket and run away. She’s that cute.

If I feel that way about a cousin, I can only imagine how I’d feel about my own kids, should there ever be any. I do know I’d be very proactive in ensuring that they have every opportunity, including the best in medical care.

Cryo-Cell is one of the largest family cord blood banks and the latest CryoCell Press Release reveals new research that shows that menstrual blood can aid in increasing progenitor cell production when combined with umbilical cord blood. Since cord blood yields a limited number of stem cells and can only be harvested at birth while menstrual blood is a renewable and non-controversial source of stem cells, combining the two significantly increases the progenitor cells available to treat more than 70 life-threatening illnesses.

Cryopreserving stem cells is an amazing technology with increasing benefits, so the newest research is a tremendous development that may one day lead to treatments for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, diabetes and other all to common diseases. Preserving those cells with Cryo-Cell is absolutely something that I am a strong supporter of, and wouldn’t think twice of doing for my own children.
