Oh hey, what's up?

Archive for December, 2009

My cousins get so many presents at Christmas that they don’t have a clue who gave them what. That’s not to say that they are ungrateful – they are probably the most polite and thankful little crumb snatchers I’ve ever met – they are just overwhelmed with stuff. Which is a good position to be in, if you ask me.

Since we don’t like getting lost in the shuffle, we try to do something a little different every year in lieu of gifts, making 2009 the year of our first official Snuggie Party. My mom coordinated lots of Snuggie activities like decorating a gingerbread house, painting ornaments, making caramel corn, watching A Christmas Story, and choreographing dance movies – all done from the confines of our Snuggies.

I think it’s safe to say that this was the first of many Snuggie parties to come.

That’s a direct quote from my 7 year old cousin, Kate.

What exactly did her 9 year old sister, Madeline, do to ruin her life? She painted her nails without permission and ruined the counter top resulting in an all out ban on nail polish in their household.

*gasp*

Thankfully, the nail polish ban didn’t last long thanks to Piggy Paint. “Natural as polishes all2009 smud,” Piggy Paint is water-based, nontoxic, odorless, and eco friendly – perfect for little piggies!

Piggy Paint comes in some seriously cute colors – like Forever Fancy and Twinkle Toes – as well as gift packs, complete with nail polish remover. And a portion of the Fight Breast Cancer Pack is donated to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure!

I know this is the time of the year when families (and bloggers in particular) pontificate about love and joy and friendship and yadda yadda yadda, but I’m just happy to be off work for four days straight.

I love Christmas – I love the decorations and the food and the television specials. But besides that, it’s just like any other time in our family – with a tiny bit more tinsel than usual.

Yes – we’re that much fun. All. Year. Long.

We don’t make a big deal about the holidays. We don’t have a big family that sits down to a formal Christmas dinner. There’s no aunts and uncles and cousins that come out of the woodwork only once a year. We see the family we want to see and talk to the friends we want to talk to on a regular basis.

Hell – half our family ditched us this Christmas and didn’t even say goodbye and both my dad and husband are working overtime on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The holidays are that important around here.

So, while you’re talking about love and joy and friendship, remember that there’s 11 other months every year that could use a little holiday spirit.

And sugar cookies.

Happy Holidays. All 12 months of the year.

I love Dita Von Teese, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that dressing your daughter in Dita Von Teese inspired dressware and taking her to the Dita: Striptease book signing to meet her “hero” probably isn’t the wisest parenting choice one could make.

I mean, unless you want your daughter to grow up to be a stripper turned fetish model turned porn star turned “burlesque artist” who marries creepy goth musicians that wear ass-less chaps.

Actually, that just may be a step up for someone who encourages their daughter to idolize a stripper. In which case, kudos to mom for helping her daughter realize her dreams!

My love for Dakota Fanning eclipses my disdain for Kristen Stewart.

I cannot wait to see The Runaways.
