Things that can ONLY be said on Thanksgiving

turkeyDo you really care what I’m thankful for? Odds are that I won’t come up with anything more exciting than the standard family, friends, and internet. Instead, I bring you…Things that can only be said on Thanksgiving. My goal is to work as many of these into conversation as possible today.

10. Talk about a huge breast!

9. Tying the legs together keeps the inside moist.

8. If I don’t undo my pants, I’ll burst!

7. That’s one terrific spread!

6. It’s a little dry, do you still want to eat it?

5. Just wait your turn, you’ll get some!

4. Don’t play with your meat.

3. I didn’t expect everyone to come at once!

2. How long will it take after you stick it in?

1. I’m in the mood for a little dark meat.

High on the hill with the lonely goatherd

I’ve never seen The Sound of Music. I have no idea what it’s about. Okay, maybe a foggy idea – a nun? orphans? goats? Julie Andrews’ bad haircut?

Sound Of Music - SQcvI do know two songs that I think are from the musical – The Lonely Goatherd thanks to Gwen Stefani’s song Wind It Up and Do-Re-Me thanks to my 4th grade music teacher, Mrs. Column.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the Broadway musical, so it’s about time I got my act together – and what better way to do so than by having The Sound of Music: 50th Anniversary Edition as my first listen.

A fully restored recording of the original Broadway cast, this special anniversary edition makes it clear why The Sound of Music became one of the longest running musicals ever and why contemporary artists like Gwen Stefani find inspiration from the music and lyrics of Rogers & Hammerstein.

SoundofMusicAlong with the limited edition soundtrack, The Sound of Music: A Classic Collectible Pop-Up is the most whimsical and charming pop-up book I’ve seen. It captures the spirit of the musical to a tee. The engineering behind the book is so intricate and unforgettable that you’ll want to add it to your library.

Whether you’re old or young, familiar with the movie or musical, the anniversary sound track and pop-up book are the perfect way to continue to enjoy this hit musical – or in my case – as an introduction to this classic.

I’m now off to add The Sound of Music to my Netflix queue!

This is a sponsored post. I received product samples in order to craft my review. Please read my site policy if you have any questions.

Le Snob for Le Creuset

I’m making a concerted effort to value quality over quantity in my life. We have far too much stuff that’s broken or useless and I’m over it – which means I’ve completely justified purchasing all kitchenware from here on out from Le Creuset.

french ovenskilletcasserole

Thankfully, Mike’s on board with this new lifestyle, and treated me to a Le Creuset French oven, skillet, and two petite oval casserole dishes. All in my favorite color – kiwi green.

I should probably mention that we decided to make this purchase in Texas. We live in Chicago. I’ll let you guess how friendly TSA was when trying to go through security with 75 pounds of cast iron.

But it was totally worth it, because we scored an extra 35% off outlet prices, which the sales lady told us was better than their upcoming Black Friday promotion. We ended up getting all four pieces for less than the French oven costs alone.

And just in case there really is a Santa Claus, here’s what’s next on my Le Creuset list…

Kindle Commercial

I think that the Amazon Kindle commercial is fundamentally flawed.

It’s too good. Too magical and fantastical. It captures the essence of why we read – to escape and experience and stretch our imaginations – too perfectly.

It makes me want to read actual books, with pages and dust covers and bookmarks – not an electronic device that we have to monitor the power bar during marathon reading sessions.

I’m a reader – a book or more a week – and this commercial shows exactly why I can’t bring myself to switch to a Kindle.
