Alzheimer’s Memory Walk

I had never known anyone with Alzheimer’s or with a family member that has Alzheimer’s until recently. Both my boss and my co-worker have a parent suffering from Alzheimer’s, and both tell stories of their loved ones not knowing who they are, telling the same stories over and over again, and destroying their belongings for reasons that are very rational to them, but are unknown to those around them.
The Alzheimer’s Memory Walk seeks to raise money every year to raise awareness and fund research for a disease that almost everyone is touched by. By making a donation to those making the 3-mile walk, or starting your own team, you can help support a cause that may help you or a loved one in the long run.

It’s one of the saddest parts of aging. It’s heartbreaking to lose the ones you love while they’re still here. That’s a great cause and so worth helping out.
I didn’t know anyone either until I met my husband. His uncle had early onset in his 50s and is now in the late stages. I’ll never forget when he was asked to say grace and without hesitation, he put his hands together, bowed his head and mumbled words none of us could understand but when he was done, he raised his head and was so proud of himself (whiIe nearly cried). Lately it’s been really frustrating for him because he can’t verbally express his emotions, especially when he wants to say, I love you.
Anyway, the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk is for a great cause. John, my husband, and I participated last year and it was amazing how much support we received from strangers and we realized how many people’s family were affected by the terminal disease.
