things I learned about my dad (in therapy)
I just finished reading things I learned about my dad (in therapy) which was edited by Heather B. Armstrong of dooce fame, and I have to express how very disappointed I am.
I read dooce for the sarcastic comments. The smart-ass, quick-witted, “I wish I had the balls to say that” style is what draws me to a blog about a married woman with a young daughter who makes far more money than I do. I have absolutely nothing in common with Heather besides being a smart-ass, and that’s enough to keep me coming back for more.
Unfortunately, the book did not reflect the same sarcasm and quick-wit I’ve come to know and love. I realize that Heather was the editor and that many bloggers contributed to the book, but not one of the stories was good enough to make me want to check out the blogger’s blogs. If I wanted heart-felt, feel-good, weepy stories about kids and their father’s, I would have picked up a Chicken Soup for the Soul book.
