Dirty Rice

Skeet shared her recipe for Dirty Rice yesterday, and I was going to take her word for it that “organ meat” was indeed tasty and worthy of being pulled out of the chicken’s butt and cooked to perfection but only because I had all the ingredients at hand from roasting a chicken.

Unforunately, after pulling all the necessary ingredients out of the chicken’s butt, I got queezy and called off the recipe! My high school anatomy classes may have failed me. I see a neck and a heart, but what is that brown goopy thing at the top?

  1. Back to school for you! That’s a liver, and the one at the bottom is a gizzard. See all the gristle on it? a chicken heart is much smaller and looks like … well more like a heart.

  2. Skeet - I don’t know if you just made my chicken experience better or worse. :-) I do know that my dog thought he died and went to heaven when he ate chicken liver.

  3. Treats for dogs = acceptable use of organ meats! :D
