13 Year Old Father
What’s the appropriate reaction when you hear about a 13 year old father?
I was immediately disgusted, then pissed off about the lack of sex education world-wide, and now I’m just completely creeped out about the whole situation, but none of those reactions seem…kind? compassionate? Especially when there’s an innocent baby involved.
It’s one thing for a child to have teenage parents. People can overcome that. Hell, my parents were 19. But when parents are in elementary school you have to wonder if there is any hope.

I think this has more to do with lack of values rather than lack of sex education. That boy looks so much younger than 13 as well!

The 15 year has to been taken to account here – she is older and wiser – probably sitting her GCSE’s soon. They taught me sex education in year 5. British sociality is getting worse.
I think they should put her in a house for now – because from what I read – she isn’t going to get a better life living with both sides of the family.

Hi Corrin! Holy crap! What is going on in people’s heads? When I was in 6th grade (1972-1973) we girls went into the assembly to see a film on menstruation while the boys had their own assembly. Then in 8th grade we had a health class that taught sex ed and reproduction, very thoroughly on hindsight. But my sister and I had learned about that from a combination of Mom and reading the medical encyclopedia. What we had though was clear, frank answers and the knowledge we were too young and immature for sex. We had no reason to want an unwanted pregnancy and if we had sex would’ve used birth control, and not gone into things blindly. But what we learned was sex required maturity. Now with this chick with 14 kids, a 13-year-old father, and the 15-year-old girl with a child and then triplets and all with no financial means, it’s mind boggling. What are they thinking? What are THEIR parents thinking?!! Sad thing is there are health-based frank sex education websites to help parents teach and teens learn.

im so shocked and amazed, the boy looks like a baby, im 17 and i have a beautiful 4 month old daughter, i wish i could have had her when i was more ready but things happen, but i am responsible and alot more mature for my age, i just dont understand how teens these days think its ok to get pregnant and have babies. our world is getting so messed up and no one is doing anything about this teen pregnancy issue. the baby’s mom looks so much older and twice the boys size, how does a 13 year old even know what to do ?

umm I dont really have much to say. Its sad for children to have babies. Weather or not the boy is younger then the girl, its the same thing. I just hope they get all the support they need! When you look at it they are both children who made a mistake, children need support not critisiam.

I didn’t hear of this story- it’s shocking. It seems to be getting worse….younger parents, younger killers, younger drug addicts etc…
My first reaction was compassion for the baby. That baby most likely has a real uphill battle ahead unless there are some decent grandparents there to help. A 13 year old certainly cannot be a parent, period.

I saw this story yesterday, but this is the first time I’ve seen the picture! WOW! I’m just appalled. I think that the child needs to be put in a home with two responsible parents, because Lord knows that the two parents of the baby aren’t responsible, and their parents aren’t responsible because they let the boy spend the night with the girl! In an interview the boys father even said that he guesses that it’s time for the birds and the bees talk now. Ya think?!

Babies having babies…. Hopefully, there are adults around. If anyone has the baby’s best interests at heart, then this child will be let go for adoption to parents who are ready and capable to be parents.

It is very sad. These two “children” have NO idea what they are going to be up against! I’m a mother of 4…21, 16, 14 and 3 years and it is hard for me at times. I can’t imagine what it is going to be like for these kids! Their lives are totally planned out for them now. Hopefully they will both graduate high school, get jobs or attend college. The chance of them successfully taking care of this child on their own is very slim. It makes me think what were these two looking for?? Love? Acceptance? Responsibility? I just hope that the parents of these two young people can take care of not only them but this new beautiful girl that has been brought into this world.

I would agree that at least one of those kids knows how babies are made. The thing with early preganancy is generally the result of effective adult supervision.

I’m with Sam – there has to be more to this story than we’ve heard or will hear.
It all just seems a little fishy to me – too contrived or something and the boy just doesn’t have anything in his eyes or his expression… sure he’s kissing the baby – but he doesn’t look quite right. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear it was a hoax.

Barbara – At 12 years old, I don’t even think I fully understood the logistics of baby-making. I’ve read other stories about girls that hadn’t even gotten their first period getting pregnant. I’m not proposing full on sex-ed, but it seems to be that some kind of education needs to start earlier.

& im 18 my sisters 14 and at school and she tells me theirs plenty of posters everywhere about “Safe Sex”, even the school teachers, and nurse are willing to give advice. Some schools even offer the morning after pill to students. I am just disgraced..

I have 4 kids and it is very scary reading this.I can say i still can not close my mouth.. I also think that as parents we need to make time to be in our kids life EVERY DAY and every MINUTE or our life… I feel sad and scared i hope them the best what can they do now its too late just i hope they dont do the same mistake again cause then i dont know what it well be called….if any kids read this think more the twice and is it worth it you have a whole life ahead of you…

The question is what happens now? On one hand taking the baby away and putting her with a more responsible family seems like a good idea, but what message does that send to the kids that had her? You can do this and someone will take away your problem? What’s the bet they get a big media deal?

I think the parents should be investigated. Something behind their consent letting these two kids to sleep together bothers me and the fact they live on benefits feed a further dubious thought that could be milking media and the unmoral society at the children’s expense. This is similar in a way to the octuplets case. Investigate the parents and save the children.

This whole story makes my stomach turn. Three lives are ruined. I hope that the baby is taken care of by someone who is able to do so correctly and with love. BTW, a boy (or girl) can be smaller and look younger just because of his genes or being of small stature. It can be a symptom of a disease but not necessarily.

I don’t even know what to say.
It’s got to do with a number of things, but mainly the lack of moral values. Where are the parents in all this? How could they let this happen? I’m strongly against abortion in this situation- the girl is much to young to cope with the emotional stress of having an abortion- but it should have NEVER got to this state in the first place. Not even the having sex part. It’s morally degrading to hear about KIDS have kids. I don’t know anymore…i’m just disgusted. I feel sorry for the baby- she’s not going to get the support she needs with a kid that doesn’t even know what ‘financially’ means. go figure.

Umm – the British schooling system works differently, going from age 11 up to 17-18. So, although it’s true they’re both young, they’re not in ‘elementary school’, partly because that particular term doesn’t exist in British schooling, and also because Primary (the equivalent) doesn’t cover 12-13 year olds.

13 year olds are in middle/junior-high schools. Not elementary. You dont have to make it that impossible.
But I have to agree, its crazy. I saw it on the news last night. The craziest part was when the girl asked him “what would you do financially?” and he was like “what is financially?” They are gonna make bad parents if they dont get on the same page. Back in the days it was normal for parents to be young. I dont know if this is true, but I heard the Virgin Mary was 13 when she had Jesus. Isn’t that crazy?
